If you’re freelancing, running a small business, or working on contract common among the creative and media professionals will generally accept bank statements, invoicing records or IRAS tax filings instead of traditional payslips.
If your documents are complete and your income meets the requirements, approval can happen within 30 minutes. Cash or PayNow transfers usually follow the same day. Delays almost always come down to incomplete paperwork or discrepancies that need clarification so coming prepared makes all the difference.
Stick to lenders you can verify on the Ministry of Law’s registry. Legitimate licensed moneylenders will never approach you on the street, send unsolicited messages or ask for payment before a loan is approved. They are also required to meet you at their registered office so never meet at a void deck, coffee shop or random location. If anything feels off, trust your instincts and walk away.
The Ministry of Law caps it based on income. If you earn under $20,000 a year, the total limit across all licensed moneylenders is $1,500. If you earn $20,000 or more, you can borrow up to six times your monthly salary.
Remember, these are combined limits meaning outstanding balances with other moneylenders reduce what’s available to you.
